What you made and what influenced you?
My project that I produced was based on Male Masculinity and how the subject of Masculinity can be made to be Toxic. Many men have lost their own sense of what it means to be a human being this can also have a damaging effect on a man’s identity and in turn suppressing Human emotions and expressions. I wanted to show how this can happen in our society through what can be perceived as Socially acceptable amongst others; for example, a man that cries because he is hurt or feeling low may be seen to others as a weak individual.
In my video I have used myself to portray a Man that has allowed the suppression to take over, In the video I use text on screen to reach out and relate towards the audience while over scenes in my video take place such as myself being hit and showing the act of crying throughout the video it’s supposed to have an overcome message that is embedded.
A message that You Are Still a Man Regardless of How you express yourself.
Organisation. Pre-Production/filming. What went well? What didn’t?
During my Pre-production my equipment list and my risk assessment were the easiest to plan out as I didn’t need too much for the production of my Project, there wasn’t much equipment that I needed to use to it was easy to put down what I was needing to use for my piece and I was only needing to use Black paper as my only Prop. For the Risk assessment, there was less risks involved that would affect the production. As I decided my production would take place in the TV studio hazards such as moving vehicles or any exterior environmental risks were non-existent in this case. Writing out my proposal was simple as I already had a clear vision of what I intended to create. I did struggle making my Treatment plan as it was very time-consuming with over 50 Different shots with changing music and various sound effects I found it was very hard to piece together. I’m hoping that it is accurate in contrary to what I’ve produced.
In my filming (Main Production) a lot of what was performed was improvised as I was in a rush to complete my project. However, my filming went very well and was completed in reasonable timing.
At first I was doing the production by myself and after I had filmed my main parts I decided that I would like to include extra scenes in my Film so I asked to friends from my class to take part in my project I felt like by doing this it would make my FMP video more Immersive and Real. During the filming stage of my project I also rushed because other people had booked out the TV studio on the same day however they didn’t show up so I was able to use the studio, during my filming the people that had the studio booked for the day so I had to get it all done as fast as possible as they were waiting outside the studio to film their project.
Edit. What went well? What didn’t?
In my editing the video turned out how I expect it to, I feel like I could have added more special effects during my editing however I have already added many Effects in the Final cut of the video. It was easy to edit as I used the software that I use with other projects that I create called Sony Vegas Pro 15, I prefer to use this application instead of Adobe Premiere Pro as I’ve only started using it this year because that’s when I started studying at NCN so I’m not too keen on using it for major projects as I want the projects I create to be Exactly how I envision them to look when I’ve completed them.
Final Product. What you think and how people feedback online (peer to peer) What areas do you want to improve next year?
Overall I am proud of my Fmp and I am happy of the way it turned out in the end. It gave the message that I was trying to spread from the beginning. I feel like people viewed the video and were able to understand my points shown within the video. All the comments and messages that I have received in response to making the video public were positive saying things such as “A Good message” and “Motivational” I have also been praised for my acting in the video and I have been praised for the Music that I have included. I spent a great deal of time looking for the right Background Music and Sound Effects to include.
I would like to improve on the variety in the future as I feel like I could of been more “Experimental with this project and had some exterior scenes of have included I would do this so that I’m (relating the world around me) By doing this and also involving it to more people I will be able to talk to with them individually so I can hear about their on their own views on the subject, and the audience would be able to see the personal battles and struggles from different people that would be acting in the project. So I believe the message could be even stronger as it would show how nobody is alone in what they are facing. For future projects I would choose do bigger projects such as Music Videos and Short films. It will be twice as harder as it would involve more to the Pre-production and Filming but if the outcome could be that it has a bigger effect in the way people can relate to what I’m making or that they get an understanding of what I’m trying to portray through my work then I’ll be happy to produce the work.
